Activities:
Cable Assembly (Main Activity):
- Preparing the required materials (according to the parts list) and tools
- Preparing cables: cutting to length, stripping, insulating, preparing braided shields, tinning wires in a solder bath
- Shrinking with a heat gun
- Crimping with hand tools or pneumatic presses
- Pressing IDC connectors with a toggle press or pneumatic press
- Soldering with solder wire feeder (Kapsi Premium)
SMT Assembly of PCBs:
- Converting pick-and-place data (PNP) on the PC
- Checking material for completeness based on a list
- Sorting components, e.g., into round containers
- Applying solder paste to the boards using a prototype stencil and hand squeegee
- Placing standard and fine-pitch components as well as QFN packages with a semi-automatic machine (Essemtec Expert SAFT)
- Visual inspection of solder joints under a stereo microscope
PCB Rework:
- e.g., removing shorts on fine-pitch components
- e.g., replacing components in 0402 packages
Device assembly according to parts list and assembly plan (e.g., control panels for subways and trams):
- Preparing materials according to the parts list with article numbers
- Assembly according to the assembly plan
Requirements:
- You have experience in hand soldering, e.g., of cable connectors with solder cups or through-hole components on PCBs (or at least a strong interest in learning and practicing).
- Independent and conscientious work in a workshop without supervision following prior instructions, i.e., you can control your work yourself, recognize problems or errors in production (such as poor solder joints, damaged wires), and come by yourself to ask questions if unsure or to seek new work instructions after completing a task.
- You are used to following written work instructions.
- Good vision (e.g., assembling small components, soldering connectors with closely spaced contacts).
- Technical understanding and quick learning when operating various hand tools.
Additional Qualifications:
It is particularly advantageous if you already have the following knowledge, skills, and practical experience (but do not hesitate to apply if you do not yet have this knowledge but feel confident in acquiring it under supervision during your work):
- Quick soldering with a hand soldering iron with solder wire feeder.
- Independent assembly of a PCB according to the assembly plan.
- Placing SMDs (semi-automatically or manually, package size up to 0402).
- Hand soldering of SMDs.
- Component preparation for PCB assembly.
- Basic knowledge of electronic components, such as:
- Recognizing PIN1 markings on SMD ICs, cathode markings on diodes (you can place components correctly according to the assembly plan).
- Distinguishing the most common SMD package sizes (e.g., if a 0603 resistor is provided instead of a 1206 resistor, you can recognize this when setting up).
- Decoding the numerical markings on SMD resistors.
- Knowledge of units of measurement for resistors, capacitors, and SI prefixes (e.g., specification on the assembly plan or parts list: 100nF; specification on the component: 0.1µF; Is that the same?).
- Recognizing some common SMD package types.
- Stencil printing and evaluating the result of the stencil printing (i.e., assessing whether the PCB you printed is suitable for further assembly).
- Basic knowledge of quality requirements for electronic assemblies.
- Computer skills:
-
- Basic knowledge in working with text files, including distinguishing between text and document formats, understanding character sets (e.g., ASCII, ISO-8859-1) and encodings like UTF-8. Familiarity with various whitespace characters (spaces, tabs) and line break characters (LF or CR/LF) is advantageous.
- Knowledge of a text editor like Emacs or vi, but Notepad is also sufficient
- Knowledge of a scripting language for text processing, such as awk
Collective Agreement Classification of this Position:
Depending on your qualifications, we have the following classifications according to the "Collective Agreement for Workers in the Iron and Metalworking Industry":
LG 6 Employee with Special Training
"Appropriate work experience and responsibility. Also workers without special training in production or assembly, provided they master several tasks (work processes) or have acquired special skills, but no later than after 3 years of employment."
We understand this to mean that you have little or no soldering experience, but a strong interest in learning it.
Monthly minimum basic wage according to the 2024 collective agreement for workers in the metal industry: 2,424.45 EUR results in a gross hourly wage of 14.52 EUR
»LG 5 Qualified Worker:«
"Special training, appropriate work experience, and responsibility."
We understand this to mean that you can meet our requirements particularly well, especially that you can solder well.
Monthly minimum basic wage according to the 2024 collective agreement for workers in the metal industry: 2,476.61 EUR (gross) based on a 38.5-hour week results in a gross hourly wage of 14.82 EUR
»LG 4 Particularly Qualified Worker:«
"Longer special training, extensive work experience, and corresponding responsibility." (We understand this to mean that you can largely meet the listed additional qualifications and can also provide corresponding certificates of employment.)
Monthly minimum basic wage according to the collective agreement: 2,601.15 EUR corresponds to a gross hourly wage of 15.58 EUR
»LG 3 Skilled Worker:«
"Completed vocational training (apprenticeship), including in technologically related or similar professions; ability to responsibly perform job-related tasks according to instructions."
With an apprenticeship as a mechatronics technician or HTL or technical school degree in electronics or mechatronics, you are already overqualified. However, if you can apply your technical knowledge in practice, solder flawlessly, and meet our production time targets, a classification as a skilled worker with a monthly minimum basic wage according to the collective agreement of 2,779.74 EUR based on a 38.5-hour week is certainly possible. This corresponds to a gross hourly wage of 16.64 EUR
